Today let's talk about finding a good spot to fish on any body of water.
In any body of water, 10% of the water holds 90% of the fish. The reason for this is that fish are attracted to structure. Structure can literally be any feature in the water that is different from the surrounding area. Most structure is completely submerged, other structure is more obvious, points extending into the lake, fallen trees etc etc.
Whether you are fishing with live bait, cut bait or artificial flies/lures you will want the ability to pack up and move. When I'm fishing with lures, I put the lures into clear plastic Plano boxes and put those boxes into a backpack. When bait fishing, try to carry your things in as compact a manner as possible.
In order to find the structure we can't see we need to walk the bank fishing all accessible areas until we start getting bites. Fifteen to twenty minutes in each spot should be plenty of time to discover if fish are there. Once we discover a spot that holds fish, we can then return to that same spot over and over in the future and expect to find fish again.
For those who can afford a GPS unit, you can create waypoints for the spots where you find fish. You can also draw maps with landmarks to help you find those underwater structure points again.
Many of us fishermen either watch TV shows about fishing or read magazine articles about fishing. The most avid of us most likely do both. By far, the vast majority of the articles and shows deal with fishing from a boat. Unfortunately, the majority of those of us who fish do not own a boat. This Blog will primarily deal with how to successfully catch fish from the bank, or by wading. At some points I may also deal with fishing from a belly boat or a small inflatable pontoon boat.

This blog will also deal with fishing for multiple species of fish and fishing tackle.
